Specific duties include:?Help lead a continuous process of professional development, classroom observation, teacher ****uation, and establish cultures of ongoing internal review, including “critical friends”/PLCs.?Oversee your department’s part in preparing/maintaining the course catalog, and organizing course-request, class-scheduling and course-change processes to optimize students’ pursuit of individual programs in which they develop intrinsic interests and passions.?Articulate staffing needs and help identify, interview and ****uate quality candidates.?Contribute to the mentoring of new teachers, particularly those with whom a functional relationship exists (e.g., department, House, etc.).?Help lead a continuous process of music curriculum co-creation in which colleagues imagine ever better ways to connect with and inspire students to become lifelong learners and innovators. Yungu curriculum should be experiential (e.g., project-based, hands-on, seminar-/inquiry-based) and connect students to the real world. ?Ensure that music departmental teachers plan and deliver rigorous, student-centered instruction that uses English/Mandarin as the primary language and utilizes a broad range of research-based teaching techniques, strategies and learning modes focusing on students learning by doing. Lessons should meet and actively engage students’ interests and abilities where they are, with appropriate differentiation for varied learning ****s and abilities. ?Ensure that your department administers academic assessments to ****uate student progress toward learning ****ives maintains clear, accurate and complete records of results and provides timely formative feedback to students, writing and submitting reports on student performance as required.?Regularly monitor student academic performance and, for students experiencing academic difficulties, communicate in a timely way with students, Mentors and parents, leading the process of devising and executing effective support plans.?Ensure that your department provides nurturing, rigorous learning environments that encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and grapple with meaningful challenges: set high bars and support student efforts to clear them. ?Monitor, guide and hold students accountable for maintaining high standards of behavior in the classroom and all school ****s and activities.?Contribute to student life in the residential, co-curricular and/or extra-curricular programs—coaching sports directing performing arts groups advising clubs/activities—inspiring and caring for students so they feel known and valued.?Serve as a role model who respects students and colleagues, and exemplifies and enhances Yungu’s values and reputation.?Continue growing as an educator, staying apprised of best practice in your subject, pursuing —and helping colleagues pursue—professional development opportunities, and constantly collaborating with colleagues to observe classes, and identify and solve problems of practice. ?Proactively establish and maintain positive relationships with parents.?As assigned, supervise students in activities outside of class during the working day, including supervising students during unscheduled periods.?Design and deliver optional courses as needed.?Substitute for colleagues who are absent. ?Support and attend all major school events.?Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Academic Affairs or Principal.Job Specifications?Bachelor’s degree required graduate degree preferred ?At least 5-10 years of music teaching experience K-12 experience in Asia is preferred ?Excellent skills in organization and concise, clear oral and written communication?High level of patience ?Ability to multi-task effectively and work efficiently, both independently and as part of a team?Desire to live and work in a residential academic setting?Ability to optimize current technology use in the classroom ?Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities and working hours?Speak English fluentlyOther requirements?Optimism, openness and creativity ?Ability to inspire others with enthusiasm for learning, particularly in your subject area ?Strong desire to continue growing personally and professionally?Comfort and ability in working with diverse individuals and groups ?Strong ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships ?Support for Yungu’s shared educational vision and goals
